4th of July Cake Pops

These 4th of July themed, red velvet cake pops are the perfect treat for a summer party. Even better, you don’t have to bake the cake from scratch! Nobody got time for that! You can use a cake mix and save a lot of time. I also will link a recipe for red velvet cake at the bottom of this page so that if you would like to bake the recipe from scratch, you may do so. Lastly, I will have some of the products that I used linked below so that if you don’t want to go to the store to buy them, you can just order them off of amazon. Alrighty then, let’s jump on into it!
Ingredients:

  • 1 box of red velvet cake mix
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 cup of water
    • 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1 16oz. jar of cream cheese frosting
  • 3 bags of candy melts (red, blue, and white)
  • 1 bag of cake pop sticks

Directions:

  1. Follow the instructions on the back of the cake mix box (blend all the ingredients together, pour into pan, and bake at recommended temperature).
  2. After the cake is done baking, make sure to let it cool for at least 2 hours so it’s not all…ok the word grosses me out too so brace yourselves… moist. EWWW. Let me know in the comments if the word grosses you out as well.
  3. Next, remove all the cake from the pan and put it into a large bowl. Use your hand to mix the baked cake up so that it is a consistent mixture.
  4. Remove all of the frosting from the 16oz jar and place it into the bowl of cake.
  5. Use your hands to mix the frosting with the cake. It may take a few minutes, but eventually, it should look like one mixture. And I know guys, it looks really gross right now, but trust me, in the end it will taste AMAZING.
  6. Next, you’re going to want to roll the mixture into one-inch balls and place them on some sort of platform. I just rinsed out the pan that I baked the cake in and placed them in there. Put the cake balls into the fridge and let them cool for about 10 minutes.
  7. Ok so now that the cake balls are cooled, pour your white candy melts into a bowl and follow the directions on the package to melt them properly. Also have your cake pop sticks out.
  8. Now we are going to dip the cake pop sticks into the melted candy melts and then place one stick into the middle of each cake pop.
  9.  Let those cool in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
  10. Once you’ve let the cake pops cool, dip each one into the melted candy melts (you may have to put them back in the microwave if the candy has hardened). I normally let the cake pops dry by putting the stick into a foam block so that it stands upright and the cake pops don’t get messed up.
  11. Next, take out the blue candy melts and place them in a bowl and put the red candy melts in a separate bowl (melt them according to the directions on the back of the package). Use a spoon and drizzle the blue candy melt onto the top of each cake pop (lightly drizzle these).
  12. Let those dry on the foam for about 30 minutes to make sure they are completely cooled and the candy has hardened. You don’t want to ruin all your hard work.
  13. And finally you have finished your cake pops! You can decorate the foam if you would like to display them at your party and trust me, all your guests will be amazed. You’re basically a pro baker now :)
